Continuing Education

Continuing Education Department can be traced back to the mid 1960’s when the College was asked by Parks Canada and the Department of Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife Branch to provide training for future employees. This training was in addition to previous education requirements such as BSc in Forestry or Forest Technician Diploma. The need for continued education remains strong.

One exposure to education is never enough. Careers expand into new fields and specialties. Professional accreditation for Certified Forest Technologists and Registered Professional Foresters requires Continuing Forestry Education credits. The Continuing Education Department of the Maritime College of Forest Technology offers several short courses each year to assist forestry professionals to gain new knowledge and skills to maintain their certification within the natural resource sector.

Courses generally are two days to one week in length and are taught by experts from around the globe such as Ralph Tiner who is contracted to instruct Wetland Delineation training. Peter Garrahan, another example of an industry expert who is contracted as well to teach the Kiln Drying workshops offered through the Continuing Education Department of the College. Continuing Education courses are divided between those aimed at Forestry Professionals and training programs for people involved in lumber manufacturing.

The subject areas for forestry workers remains a focus for the Continuing Education Department however, technologies and philosophies change therefore all areas of forestry including conservation, management, and environmental training are researched and delivered to meet current requirements whether legislated by law or requested by the public.

Training is now portable and can be delivered on-site to clients throughout the Atlantic Provinces and the rest of Canada.  If you or someone in your organization requires specialized training we look forward to speaking with you to determine your exact needs and develop your customized training.

The Department of Continuing Education at the Maritime College of Forest Technology is the place for all your specialized training, development and delivery needs.
